Private Placement Investing: A New Prime Window Opens

I do a full position update for members of Private Placement Intel each quarter. 

Tomorrow is the final day of Q3. 

The average open position in that portfolio is up nearly 215% despite a broader pullback in the TSXV and junior miners over the past six to eight months. 

Year-to-date, the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index (JX) is down more than 11.5% and the VanEck Junior Gold Miners ETF (GDXJ) is up just 2.2%.

Over the past five years, which covers more than 90% of our open private placement positions, the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index is flat on its back and GDXJ is up ~200%.

But our average open win of +215% belies several facts:

  • That some 20% of our open placements were done in the past year and are very early stage with many catalysts ahead;
  • That we still have a few private companies with liquidity events or listings ahead;
  • That we have significant warrant leverage, including several that are deeply in-the-money with expiration dates well into the future; and 
  • That we have closed a cumulative +275% in average wins over the past five years, or +55% on average.

And there is plenty more ahead…

We just completed a new placement in Daura Gold and are doing a new placement in an exciting gold explorer this week, each with drill bits set to turn. 

We’re awaiting drill permits in other names that will create future catalysts. 

And we have warrants to exercise right now, including in a Western US gold developer that are 80% in-the-money and in a Mexican silver-gold explorer that are 162% in-the-money. 

By January, we’ll exercise $0.10 warrants in a Latin American explorer that are currently up 140% and $0.40 warrants in a mining technology company that are currently up 50%. 

As I say all the time, private placements are the main tool I used to build my wealth. 

That’s why I’ve been calling them “Prime Windows.” 

You need to act on them when they’re open. 

And as noted above, we are doing a new placement in an exciting gold explorer this week.
