All eyes continue to be on the bond market.
Japan’s 10-year bond yield topped 3% for the first time since 1996.
Brent crude is above $90 per barrel as further escalation in the Middle East is putting pressure on supply routes and, obviously, having an impact on the energy markets.
That is not helping calm inflation fears.
The U.S. 10-year is sitting at 4.79%. That’s the highest since January of 2025.
In Japan, the 10-year is above 3%. That’s a 30-year high. In Germany, the 10-year is at 3.36%.
That’s the highest since 2011.
And in the UK, the 10-year is at 5.25%. That’s the highest since 2008.
What to do?
Bessent and Warsh have a bit of a conundrum there.
Do they hold rates?
Do they raise rates?
Does Bessent get more aggressive in intervening in the bond market, attempting to control the yield curve?
It’s going to be an interesting several months.
That, of course, is going to bring volatility into the metals space. Short-term noise, folks. That’s the main thing to remember here.
Gold is currently sitting above $4,400/oz. Silver is sitting at $65/oz. I have strong conviction that both metals trend higher as we head into the final months of the year.
Copper continues to look strong at $6.60/lb on the spot price.
Uranium — quietly, quietly — the spot price has inched higher to the current $90/lb mark. I expect the uranium equities to continue to behave well here in the latter part of this year.
The Dollar Index (DXY), of course, is slightly elevated but still below the 100 mark. The U.S. index is currently at 99.55.
The world remains volatile, ditto for markets, but I suspect the next several months will be very rewarding to us.
